Noel Gallagher responds to the Foo Fighters’ initiative to reunite Oasis

August 28th has marked the 10th anniversary of Oasis split, which Liam Gallagher commemorated with the release of the wistful and nostalgic One of Us music video.

Meanwhile, during the Foo Fighters’ performance at the Reading Festival the band’s drummer Taylor Hawkins decorated his drum kit with a Morning Glory era picture of Liam and Noel. Pointing at the photo, he remarked, “One of these days we’ll get Oasis back. One of these days. Let’s sign a petition, everyone here”. Dave Grohl went on to ask the crowd, “How many people wanna see Oasis fucking play a show?” Judging by the crowd’s enthusiasm, everyone was all for it.

Nevertheless, Noel Gallagher doesn’t share everyone’s excitement. Before starting his set in San Diego, California, Noel asked the audience, “Any Oasis fans in the house?” Upon hearing the deafening roar of the crowd, Noel went on to make a sarcastic joke, “Is anyone going to sign that petition Dave Grohl wants to get us back together? I’d like to start a petition to get the Foo Fighters to split up”. The crowd burst into laughter. Knowing Noel’s specific sense of humour, such a remark should be taken with a pinch of salt. Nevertheless, the message is clear enough: the long-awaited Oasis reunion is still not on the cards in the visible future. But let’s be honest: everyone, Noel included, knows that if there really was such a petition, many of us would happily sign it.
